Russell Hatcher was born on October 6, 1952, in Chase City, Virginia, and entered eternal rest on February 23, 2026. He was the cherished son of the late Verdine Hatcher and Fannie Berkley Hatcher. Russell lived a life defined by service, devotion, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone who had the blessing of knowing him.

A proud graduate of Bluestone Senior High School's Class of 1971, Russell began his distinguished military career later that same year. On December 6, 1971, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served faithfully as an Electrical Technician. Through dedication, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring with honor.

After completing his military service, Russell continued to pursue his passion for electronics and technology. He earned an Associate Degree in Electronics Technology from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and continued his studies toward a Bachelor of Electronics Technology at Virginia State University. He later retired from the Defense General Supply Center, where he was admired for his skill, reliability, and professionalism.

On April 12, 1978, Russell married the love of his life, Barbara. Their marriage was a true partnership—rooted in love, laughter, and mutual support. Together they raised two sons, Eric and Anthony, who were the pride and joy of his life. Russell was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his family remained at the center of everything he did.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Barbara; his two sons, Eric (Sara) and Anthony; and his beloved grandchildren, Chad and Allie. He is also survived by his sisters Ruby Moore (Levander) of Brooklyn, New York; Mattie Smithson (Carnell) of Chase City, Virginia; Pattie Hayes of Richmond, Virginia; and Barbara Brown (Thomas) of Richmond, Virginia; as well as his brother, Earnest Hatcher of Chase City, Virginia. He is further survived by a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. Russell also leaves behind an extended family of brothers and sisters he held dear, lovingly known as "The Browns": Grace B. Tucker (Calvin), Brenda B. Walker (Calvin), Linda Williams, Patricia D. Brown, Rossie Brown (Karen), Gloria B. Williams (Victor), and Wilbur E. Brown (Gloria). He is also remembered with love by his lifelong friend, Wayne Mangum (Cheryl).

Russell lived life with enthusiasm and a warm, infectious humor. He was a loyal Washington Redskins fan, a lover of photography, and a man who enjoyed singing, telling jokes, and making people laugh—often punctuating his punchlines with his signature phrase, "Write that one down." He loved watching football, basketball, shooting hoops etc. Most of all, he treasured time spent with family—reunions, holidays, cookouts, and any gathering that brought loved ones together.

To know Russell was to know kindness, loyalty, and a joyful spirit that brightened every room. His legacy lives on in the laughter he inspired, the love he shared, and the many lives he touched.

Funeral Service for Mr. Russell Hatcher will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Concord Baptist Church, 11422 Highway Forty Seven, Chase City, VA. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will begin on Monday from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the church.
